French architect and concept designer Julien Rondino has come up with this idea for a motorcycle called the Axial 3 Wheels. We’re used to seeing trikes and the famous Piaggio MP3, but this concept is totally different. Based on a KTM LC8, it uses three inline 14? wheels, the first is directional, the second motive and the third is self directional and according to its designer it offers more safety than a normal two wheel motorcycles.

Julien Rondino is the mastermind behind the A3W Motiv, a three-wheeled concept motorcycle with no apparent purpose unless you give it a second thought. Featuring a 999cc KTM LC8 engine mounted on a steel/aluminum chassis, the bike has got the grunt and everything it takes to get the most benefits from it, including a hub centre steering, adjustable ergonomics as well as perimeter brakes.
So what’s with the third wheel? Most likely, this provides extra traction and also allows the concept bike to pass over all kinds of urban obstacles.

Motorcycle-mad Rondino, told orange.co.uk: "I love motorbikes, but the history of the motorcycle has never changed from the concept of two wheels. I want to change the architecture and believe I have found a new way with the addition of the extra wheel."
Rondino, who now rides a customised BMW R GS 80, suffered a fractured right shoulder after a collision with a car in Paris 10 years ago while riding a Suzuki TL 1000 S.
However, he pointed out his painful experience wasn't the catalyst for the radical design.

Rondino explained: "I still very much love motorcycles and riding them, but of course my accident made me more aware and afraid of the dangers associated whilst out riding.
"Safety obviously plays a major influence in the A3W Motiv design, but the extra wheel's dynamics is all about the rider's sensation of being able to turn and the angle you are able to achieve through the architecture I have designed.
"Riding a bike remains very dangerous - there is lots of power and only a small contact patch with the road. On a traditional bike, a loss of grip on either wheel usually produces a crash."
